FOBH has created & sent out several (with hopes to send more) D.I.Y. SURFBOARD HANDLE KITS to upper limb amputees who surf.
Bethany has had many upper limb amputees inquire about how she duck-dives when surfing. Duck-diving is a common issue for anyone trying to surf with one arm as you aren’t able to control the surfboard when pushing it through the wave. This handle, which Bethany’s dad, Tom, invented, has been a life-saver for Bethany. And we hope to share it with others so they can enjoy their surf sessions safely and with a little less frustration!
The kits include: written instructions, all the materials required for assembly, information on where to purchase materials in the future, and a Heart of a Soul Surfer DVD, which has a special feature showing Bethany’s dad putting a handle on Bethany’s surfboard!
It’s a simple package, but one that can be so meaningful and bring so much HOPE to the recipient. HOPE that they CAN surf. HOPE that Life DOES go on. HOPE that they can OVERCOME.

Jorge Fernandez - my daughter had a blood clot travel to her brain and burst at the age 20 while she was 8 months pregnant. She is strong and loved by the lord, she gave me a beautiful healthy grandson and then fought for her life. She survived and continues her rehabilitation. I tell this story to first publicly thank my lord and savior, and to let all who read this to never, never under any circumstance underestimate our lord Jesus Christ or the power of the human spirit.
