Becky Hamilton
Becky produced and directed the documentary Heart of a Soul Surfer, the first major project sharing Bethany’s story with the world. She also co-produced the Sony Pictures 2011 bio-pic, Soul Surfer. Her unique position in Bethany’s life as sister in law, friend, and executive assistant give her amazing insight into how to continue to lead this organization.
Tom Hamilton
Tom is Bethany’s dad and co-founder of Friends of Bethany. His compassion for those facing tragedy, and his heart to give back to the Kauai community is what inspired him to create the organization. A retired fine dining waiter, he and his wife now manage the family rentals and properties. He leads FOBH’s First Response Team by sending personalized encouragement packages to those in need.
Sarah Hill
A founding board member and part time staff, Sarah is not only involved in the ministry aspects, but now develops rapport with donors and executes Friends of Bethany’s annual fundraising plan. Sarah was instrumental in helping Bethany through the tragic loss of her arm. Sarah’s own past, which include suffering a broken neck and back in a surfing accident, helped prepare and equip her in ministry. Serving as a missionary on the Island of Kauai, Sarah she leads one of the largest student ministries on the island. Grounded in her devotion and love for Christ, her training allows her to recognize those in need and gives her the ability to reach out to them.
Adam Dirks
Adam is not only Bethany’s husband, but plays a key roll in the lives of many young people as a youth leader. His passion for God and love for others is infectious. Growing up in Kansas playing football, Adam felt certain there was a greater calling on his life and found himself following that call all the way to Kauai, moving there in 2011 to help to start Young Life on the West side of the Island. Today Adam is partnering with Bethany in their coupled vision of reaching out to youth.
Melanie Bierma

A wife and mother of two toddlers, Melanie works with her family-owned business, Chicken in a Barrel, teaches math at a local private school, and is highly involved in her church fellowship. Her kind, generous nature and love for Jesus shine through in every area of her life.

Jon Sundt

Jon is a serial entrepreneur and experienced businessman. He was the founder and former CEO of Altegris, a financial services firm. Jon sold Altegris in 2010 to a Fortune 500 company. Jon is considered a thought leader in the investment world and frequently quoted in news (CNBC, Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal).  He was awarded the 2012 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year in San Diego. Jon is the founder and Chief Visionary Officer for Natural High; an award winning non-profit which serves over 20,000 teachers and 8 million youth in the USA. He is married to Kathliene and they have two children.  He enjoys surfing, traveling and many adventures.

Dean Plumlee

Dean is a rare surfer from West Virginia.  Having served in Student Ministries in various capacities for over a decade he has spent the last 17 years serving with Christian Surfers United States (CSUS) with his final years as National Director.  He now serves as Ministry Catalyst on staff with Sonlife Ministries (an org offering training and resources for leaders to makes disciples as Jesus did.

Coral Miles
Founding board member and long time Hamilton family friend. Coral is an entrepreneurial jewelry designer, vacation rental owner/manager, and a loving family woman. Her compassion for others shows in her past involvement with women’s shelters and being active in her church fellowship.
Rick Bundschuh

Rick is a surfer, writer, and cartoonist, and serves as one of the pastors at Kauai Christian Fellowship. Much of his ministry over the years has been focused on youth. A long time friend of the Hamilton family, Rick co-authored Bethany’s book Soul Surfer as well as four novels in the Soul Surfer Series.

Brenda Scott Rogers

Brenda is a close Hamilton family friend, an Entrepreneur who founded two companies, International Aquatic Trades and Hotline Wetsuits both operating today. A Pro surfer in the 70’s and 80’s in 1981 was ranked 3rd in the world, she won several prestigious events including the World Cup at Sunset Beach, Hawaii in 1978.

Bethany Chavez
Bethany Chavez joined our team in June of 2015 as our Administrative Assistant. She is highly involved at her church fellowship and serves as a worship leader on Kauai.

Lisa Curlee
Lisa lost her leg in a motorcycle accident at the age of 16. She now aims to love and support her fellow amputees through her partnerships with FOBH and The Lauren Scruggs Kennedy Foundation. She initially connected with Friends of Bethany at our first annual Beautifully Flawed Retreat and now plays a vital role in mentoring and following up with the young women from our retreats.
Noah Hamilton
A founding Board Member and former Vice President of FOBH, Noah now serves on our Advisory Board.
Lauren Scruggs-Kennedy
A fashion journalist and the founder and editor-in-chief of LOLO Magazine, Lauren became globally known after a horrible accident that resulted in the loss of both her left eye and hand. She authored her memoir Still Lolo: A Spinning Propeller, a Horrific Accident, and a Family’s Journey of Hope in 2012 and released Your Beautiful Heart in 2015. She is currently in the process of starting a foundation that works to provide beautiful prosthetics for those in need,
