By 8:30am on Saturday, August 22, the parking lot outside the Kauai Community College Theater was brimming with life. About 50 volunteers had transformed the property for the day into a warm and exciting environment to host our first Life to the Fullest Youth Conference, and the students were starting to arrive. Continental breakfast was served as teens from all over Kauai popped between the two photo booths, the Friends of Bethany tables, and the center display of giveaway items they could choose to put their multiple tickets in for an end of day drawing.

The doors opened to the theater just before 9am and the energy was almost electric as about 250 students found their seats. After a brief welcome by the FOBH Director, kids were asked to participate in our first Minute to Win it Challenge–a challenge we would have going all day–where some teens were selected to compete against Bethany Hamilton on stage. From there – the day was off!

The connection between the students and the speakers was apparent as they heard from Michael Ancheta about the thief that tries to destroy our lives, then from pro-body boarder Dave Hubbard about the illusion that the party scene has anything good to offer, and from Sarah Hill about the lies that the enemy uses to bring us down and keep us from living to the fullest. After lunch (Mahalo to Hubboards for the grinds!) and shave ice (Mahalo Jojo’s!), the students were stoked to hear from Bethany Hamilton about how to press in to God through the hard times, and then from her husband, Adam Dirks about what it means that Jesus gives us LIFE to the FULLEST!

Throughout the day, love, joy, truth, and excitement came forth from the FOBH speakers and volunteers. Students lives were touched and forever changed. At the end of the day, 124 teens responded with a YES to follow Jesus! We are thrilled to see what God has in store for these teens on our lovely home island of Kauai.

We’d like to say a huge Mahalo to all of our sponsors, partners, and donors: Chicken In A Barrel BBQ, Hubboards Bodyboards, Young Life Kauai, Jojo’s Shave Ice, Calvary Chapel Lihue, Calvary Chapel Bible College Kauai, On the Edge Kauai, YWAM Kauai, Rex Surfboards, The Root Kauai, Leinani Designs, Beauty Bar Kauai, Aloha Exchange, Scotty’s Music, Bubba’s Burgers Hanalei, Princeville Ranch Adventures, Naomi Wong Photography, Matt Nicholson, Coconut Style, and Fortress eyewear.
